First you have to roll down the back window Pop all the trim off that covers the seam between the top and the truck itself. You can do this with just a screwdriver. There are like 15 star security bolts, so you'll have to go to a hardware store to get the correct bits for these bolts. You can use a ratchet wrench to pull them all out. Be careful to disconnect the power wire that powers the brake light form the top.Te cord is in the back left corner. (when standing outside behind the bronco) Then just lift the roof off! Good luck, and remember: taking the top off shows that it's summer and you like to party! ;)

How does the top of a 1996 ford bronco come off?

In 1992, several changes were made to the Bronco that made it illegal to remove the top. The first was the addition of shoulder belts for the rear passengers, which bolted to the top. The second was the addition of a 3rd brake light in the top. Removing the top made the rear seat belts unusable and federal requirements state that any vehicle that had a 3rd brake light cannot remove it. To remedy the situation, a rear seat from an 80 - 91 Bronco can be swapped in, and a bolt on 3rd brake light can be put on the tailgate or over the spare tire, like modern Jeeps. To remove the top, remove all of the interior trim (which is held on by standard screws) and then you'll need a special Torx Safety Bit (size 40 I believe) to remove all of the bolts inside.
