I just changed mine yesterday. Most publications will tell you to remove the driveshaft on the passenger side. If you are like me, and don't think you are up to (or just don't want to )do it that way, this is how I did it: 1. Remove the charcoal cannister. It is the cylinder shaped black object on the left side corner. 2. There are 4 vaccum hoses connecting to the cannister. If the color coding on the hose and/or the cannister is missing, ensure you mark them yourself so you hook them back up in the correct location. 3. Once the hoses for the canister are removed, slide the cansister off of it's bracket. After you slide the canister up and out of the way, remove the two bolts holding the bracket on. 4. To the right of where the canister was, is a cable harness which is clamped to the front. Remove that clamp, and move that harness as much out of the way as possible. 5. Once these are out of the way, you can pull the alternator out. It will appear as if there still isn't enough room, but if you fiddle with it enough, moving it to different angles, it WILL come out. I think that was much easier, than the alternative method of removing the drive shaft on the passenger side!

What are the precedures from for replacing the alternator on a 1989 Ford Probe?

Ford manual calls for approximately 5 hrs of work and having to drop the front axle. There is an easier way! Remove alternator from brackets and work it accros the back side of the engine to the other side of the engine (opposite from were it is mounted at the other end of the engine compartment) until you find an opening large enough for the alternator to fit through. Once removed you can now install the new alternator working in reverse order. Time to complete approx. 45 min. GOOD LUCK. SPARKY.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1996 Chrysler Sebring JX convertible?

I just replaced the alternator on a 97 Sebring JXi convertible, 2.5L engine. I had to remove the four AC compressor mounting bolts so that the AC could be moved away from the engine enough to get a socket on the alternator pivot bolt. You do not need to break the compressor lines. I also removed the top mounting ear bolt and the bracket to make room to remove the alternator from the engine compartment. Of course the first thing you do is disconnect the negative battery terminal either at the battery or at the jumper cable location in the engine compartment. You also have to loosen the idler pulley and remove the belt. I removed the front right wheel and plastic cover to get to the pulley and belt. This also permits better access to the AC compressor bolts. I found it easier to get the alternator free before I disconnected the electrical wires.

Will a car start if the alternator is going out?

It will start if there is enough charge in the battery to turn the engine over. However if the alternator is weak then the battery will not be charged fully.

Check your alternator, it will cause the engine to miss if it is not putting out enough voltage under a load.

The laguna service light stays on and your engine lacks power?

This means there is a problem within the engine. If the engine is lacking power then it could be that the alternator is not providing enough charge to the engine motor.Ê

When your 99 VW Golf is stationary the headlights seem to loose brightness intermittently Anyone know of this problem?

It may be the result of a malfunctioning alternator, or simply a loose alternator belt. When the car is idling, the rpm's of the engine are decreased. This means that the battery is putting out energy, but the engine is not moving the alternator fast enough to refill the charge. When the car is moving, the alternator is getting enough power to keep the lights from dimming.

Is a fuel leak in the engine compartment bad?

Yes, if you have any fuel leaks on your vehicle it's bad. Especially in the engine compartment. If the fuel heats up enough it can ignite for starters. It's also bad for your fuel economy.

97 Honda civic lights dim and engine dies?

The most common cause for your 1997 Honda Civic lights to dim is a bad alternator. The alternator is not charging the battery. The battery retains a small charge, but not enough charge to run the engine.

How do you remove pivot bolt on Hyundai accent alternator?

Once you have loosened the alternator belt, creep under the car and remove the nut that holds the pivot bolt to the engine block, you actually do not have to remove the bolt entirely to be able to remove the alternator. Loosening the pivot will be enough.

How does Diesel generator work?

A diesel generator generally works in two parts. The first part is the diesel engine whitch works the same as any normal internal combustion piston engine, it has a out put shaft attached to the crank (the same as any car engine) which is conected to the actual generator. The generator is just a large alternator- the shaft of the alternator is driven by the diesel engine(usually no clutch is used). A governor is used between the alternator and the diesel engine so that when load is placed on the alternator (you plug a power tool in to the generator for example) the engine revs pickup to spin the shaft fast enough to produce sufficeint electricity. For further reference look up the separate parts in wikipedia -diesel engine -Alternator -governor valve

Can a loose positive battery cable prevent the alternator from charging the batter and can it cause a battery drain while the engine is not running?

Yes, a loose battery cable will prevent the alternator from charging the battery. The drain on the battery is not caused by the engine not running unless an accessory is left on. Most likely, the drain is caused by accessories (radio, lights, etc) while the engine is running due to the battery not receiving its charge from the alternator and then not having enough charge left to start the engine.

Can you remove a 1200 cc fiat punto engine without removing the gearbox?

No, There's Note Enough Room In The Engine Compartment To Remove It From Above Although If You Have A Ramp And A Crane You Can Drop It From The Bottom, But This Is Not Advised. Just Remove Gearbox First And The Engine Will Come Out The Top Easily With Enough Fiddling Etc And Obvisiously With The Help Of A Engine Lift.

How do you loosen the alternator belt when trying to remove the alternator on a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire?

Somewhere on the belt there should be a tensioer that is mouted to the engine or the alternator bracket. Turn it counter clockwise with a 15mm wrench and it should lift the tensioner enough to slide off the belt.On my '96The tensioner is down and to the left of the alternator (looking at the engine from the passenger side fender) I had to replace the alternator just this weekend. The tensioner is loosened by putting a 15mm wrench on the center nut and rotating it to the right (toward the front of the car)

What isthermostat of hilux toyota?

The thermostat opens and closes to keep the engine running at the optimum temperature range. A properly operating thermostat also keep the engine coolant hat enough to heat the passenger compartment in wintertime.

Why does the alternator not charge your battery?

Something's toastedIt should. That is it's job. If it does not, either the battery is bad or the alternator is, or wiring, regulator, etc. When replacing the alternator, it is usually a good idea to replace the battery. Don't skimp! Get a good one, EXide, etc, with enough CCA to tun th engine over in the cold.

How do you replace an alternator belt on a 1996 Toyota Corolla?

loosen the one or two bolts holding the alternator in place, i believe 14mm, then loosen the 12mm on the adjuster (side) and "screw" the 12mm bolt down to lower the alternator down enough and replace the belt. This is almost the same for every Toyota engine which doesnt use an automatic belt tensioner (serpentine) on the alternator.

What makes 1996 Chevy blazer die when you turn on the lights?

Alternator is not charging the battery. When you turn on the lights the system doesn't have enough power to keep the engine running.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1991 Chevy Cavalier?

Remove the alternator restraint bracket screws. Next, using a 15mm wrench turn the tensioner bolt located on the left side of the engine block (The side where the pulley assembly is). Turn just enough to push back and down. The tensioner should move loosening the belt and freeing the tension from the alternator. Then, remove all of the screws securing the alternator. Disconnect the electric ground cable from the rear of the alternator. Remove the alternator. Installing the new one is basically the reverse of the uninstall. Remember****** Don't fight with the belt. If it's too tight to put around the alternator loosen the tensioner. If you can't get the belt all the way over the alternator pulley, put it as far as you can and stabilize it with a pry bar. While holding the belt partially on the alternator pulley with the pry bar, have someone responsible bump the ignition. Do not turn the car on! Barely turn the key till the starter tries to turn. The belt should have jumped on now.
