If its the same as my 1998 first you have to pop off the latch that's located inside the drivers side armrest. There should be 2 screws their. Finding the last screw was the problem for me. You have to take something like a screwdriver and pop off the interior light on the door and their you will find the last screw. After that it should pop right up.
I think there is also a push pin type retainer inside the vent feed hole. - bowfan
