The Ford Contour was produced from the years 1995 to 2000. The front pump transmission seal in a 1998 Ford Contour is located very close to the camshaft.
remove the valve cover,remove timing belt , lossing all caps that hold camshaft,then remove the caps, lift out the shaft.

I have a 2000 Contour and there was a 19mm stud between the armrest and seat. It is hard to see and get the wrench on.
camshaft sensor is under power steering pump. remove steering pump, then set aside do not remove hoses. sensor is down, remove one bolt that holds sensor in, then pull up on sensor to remove.

Probably easiest to pull the driveaxel and take the alternator out that way
Last year my mechanic changed my broken camshaft in a 3.3 l flex fuel engine in my 2000 Grand Caravan. It was necessary to jack up the van and drop the engine far enough to pull the camshaft out the passenger side. There were quite a few parts to remove to do that.
It is under the front of the passenger side cylinder head.
cam position sensor on a 2.3 quad 4 is on the end of the front camshaft housing, on the back of it, it is a round plug.
It is the "E". Make sure the pin in the camshaft is in the slot with the "E" if you remove the camshaft pulley.
