Raise car, chock front wheels and put jack stands underneath.
Remove the tire.
Drain differential.
Remove the differential cover. If mating pin (Silver rod, the only brightly polished part in there) capscrew (Torx no. 10) is not visible, remove rear drive shaft and Turn axle until mating pin capscrew is visible.
Remove capscrew and mating pin, do not let the cluster gears turn or they will come apart. Not impossible to put together but very aggrevating.
Push the axle in from the side of the vehicle.
Remove the yellow "C clip".
Pull the axle from the side of the vehicle.
Reverse order to reinstall.
You can if you remove the rear drive shaft.

To permanently disable, remove the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential.
