How do you remove the handle from the dash of a 2000 silverado changing the heater core?

If you have already removed the passenger's air bag, you will see two long metal rods holding it on. On the inside of the dash, at the beginning of these two post, there is a small black square piece with a white strip on the side. This strip is actually a clip. Press in on the white strip while pulling on the handle. This takes two people. One to press on both clips and one to pull REALLY HARD on the handle to slide it out.

Remove glove box door. Behind that is heater core. Remove the cover,the core is right there. Under the hood, against the firewall you'll see the hoses going to the core. Remove 2 hose clamps then the core will come out from from the inside of your truck.
