Disconnect the pump from the power, disconnect the pump and motor from the Plumbing, disconnect the motor from the pump, By now you should be able to pull the pump apart the impeller is the double disc with the water ports in it, These need to be cleared if there is any thing in them clear them and put it back together. ∙ 13y agoIt depends on the configuration of the filter tank so you should consult the owner's manual for the authoritative answer. With that said, here is a typical method:
Usually you do what is known as "backflush". You shut the valves that would run the water from the pool through the filter and open the valves that will cause the water to flow into the bottom of the filter instead of into the pool. You also open the valve(s) that will allow water coming off the top of the filter to flow to an external drain - the sewer usually. The water is flowing opposite to the direction it usually flows when the filter is doing its filtration. Much of the material that has be caught in the filter will be flushed out this way and go to the drain. This only works for so long though and eventually you have to remove and replace the used filtration media with some fresh media.
You can also buy chemicals to run through the filter that will help dissolve junk that has accumulated and kill of the stuff growing in it. When you use those chemicals, you set the valves to just recycle the water/chemical mixture through the filter for a while and then open the both the fresh water feed and drain to flush it all out.

∙ 11y agoThe impellers screw on with left hand threads so you have to turn the impeller clockwise to remove it. You will need new seals for the shaft and the scroll.
