I just went through this with my 2001 Celica. After removing the screw, it felt like the plastic cover would break if I pulled any harder. The cover has internal clips in the front and back holding it in place. What I think finally worked for me, apply pressure either forward or backward first to free up the clips on one side, then try to pull down from the other side - eg push forward toward the windshield and pull down on the back side (closest to the windshield) and it should release. It didn't come off easy for me, but at least it finally came off. Good luck. DH
I have the same question. Has anyone in the Celica community ever removed these before? I've searched high and low and have not found any help...

Yes. ANSWER: If you're going to do it to save weight, they only weigh a few pounds. Depends on the generation. Removing the back seats in a cloth interior 5th gen celica saves you about 40lbs. Obviously more for a GTS/AllTrac leather interior. I don't know the weights of the other generations.
