Look at the front of the machine beside the activity LEDs. You'll see a panel. Turn the machine over and unscrew the panel, theres only one screw holding it on. Now, it takes some working to actually get this cover off, but it will come off eventualy. Inside there you'll find the harddrive, its just a simple matter of unscrewing it and pulling the cradle out.Refitting is the reverse of removal.
Is this a trick question? This model of Toshiba has onboard memory, so I guess remove the motherboard...
remove battery, remove the small screw in upper left-hand corner. Remove the screw at the recessed center hole. Remove CD-ROM, remove the screw in top right-hand corner. Lift palm rest upwards and lay it back on the keyboard. The memory module is in front of you to the left of where the plastic cable is plugged into.
I looked for the user guide, but there is a problem on the TOshiba homepage (as usual...). My guess is this: turn around you notebook on the back. On the left side (there are also the audio chinch plugins!) you will see a latch that sourrounds also the audio ports. It is fixed by 1 - 3 screws, try the loosen these screws. then you might be abel to pull out the hard drive to the side (it might be behind the plastic latch). BE CAREFULLY! THE CONNECTORS FROM NOTEBOOK-HDDs ARE VERY THIN!! Good luck.
Toshiba does not specify a maximum size hard drive for this laptop. Based on its age / date of manufacture, it was probably built around the time of the 2.1 GB barrier, and thus is already equipped with the largest possible drive usable under most operating systems.
You can access the hard drive from the bottom of the laptop. If you turn the laptop upside down, you'll find the hard drive door under the Toshiba sticker with the laptop serial number. Remove two screws from the hard drive cover and then remove the cover. Slide the hard drive to the right and remove it. Transfer the hard drive bracket to a new hard drive.
The price of a Toshiba portable hard drive depends largely on the size of the drive. The larger the drive the more the cost. However, the cheapest Toshiba portable hard drive in the US, brand new is $50 for a 160 GB drive.
The Toshiba A15-S157 uses a standard 2.5" 40 GB EIDE / PATA hard drive.
The largest hard drive that one can find for external hard drives on Toshiba's website is 3 terabytes. One can also find 3 terabyte internal hard drives on their website as well.
Seagate is a top branded name. It is better than toshiba.
Toshiba external hard drives come in range of prices, depending on your requirements. A 500 GB portable hard drive will cost approximately å£60, whereas a 1000 GB portable hard drive will cost you about å£75.
Presumably by size you mean capacity? The BIOS determines how much hard drive memory your computer can address so if you are upgrading your hard drive I suggest you check Toshiba's website and download the latest BIOS for your machine.
Any computer can boot from CD, you must get into BIOS[read your manual on how, I hope]. Once your there you set the boot order so that CD is on top or first instead of floppy or hard-drive. Its safe to leave it that way too, there are many freeware downloadable CDs on the net from helping you repair a system to running Linux directly from the CD drive, no-install.
No. They will stay on the hard drive.
Yes
Toshiba hard drives, as are most USB 2 drives, are fully compatible with Mac OS X. (See links below)
