Follow this thread for a nice breakdown of removal. I think this should cover your model year as well.

Most of the time you don’t have to change the whole assembly, unless its been crushed or broken. The light bulb twists and un screws from the back of the assembly unit.
They are inside the headlight assembly. If they are broken you will have to replace the whole assembly. The dealership will charge you about $1000 for two new ones. I found some online for $117 a piece and installed them myself. Hope that helps.
In order to "fix" something, it would be very helpful to know in what way is it "broken"(??)For example...Is the assembly & lensPhysically brokenGlazed overOut of alignmentSimply burned outRephrase the question and relevant help & information should be forthcoming
You must replace the adjuster with a new one. That means the headlight assembly must first be removed the adjuster replaced and headlight beam adjusted so it si even with the side that is not broken.
I have a 2002 Mercury Cougar with a broken headlight cover and was told by the dealership that I would have to get an entire new assembly. I have been looking for about 8 months and I have to tell you, they are almost impossible to find and very expensive. $225-$325 if you can find one. Good luck! Sealed unit, you have to replace the headlight, eBay has them often.
Check socket for a loose connection or broken pinCheck headlight for broken tabCheck wires for an open circuit or cut wire
Sounds like you may have broken rear suspension parts. Sway bar or spring may be broken.
That sounds like a broken or loose strut assembly.
If this is a Camry, and the headlight lens is broken, you would have to buy the whole assembly, not just a lens. If the headlight lens is discolored[being that it is plastic]there are products to make them clear. Go to E-bay motors and look up headlamp cleaners..A good product..........
if you hacksaw the rest of the bolt underneith off , you can take the headlight out and change your bulbs . and to fix the bolts go to dealer get 2 new bolts , then heat old ones up to remove and put new bolts in
Unfortunately, you have to replace the whole headlight assembly. Just went thru that after an accident. There are small plastic "rods" that hold things in place and apparently once they break, there is nothing else you can do. Be sure you are sitting down when you get the estimate........
http://www.cindyli.com/index.php/site/comments/vw_beetle_headlight_replacement/. ALSO: It IS possible to change the bulb yourself even IF the owner previous to you has broken the lever that controls the motion of the headlight assembly. I know this because I just did it. There is a small, rectangular, black button that would have controlled the motion of the lever to the headlight assembly before whoever broke the thing did whatever they were doing to it. Depress that button with a screwdriver or other sturdy poking device. Don't put the screwdriver down yet! You still need it! The lever just controls a plastic ring inside the mounting. That ring houses a plastic track on which the inner peg of the headlight assembly moves as you pull it out. Use the screwdriver to pry some of the adhesive loose around the front of the headlight assembly. This will make the rest of the process easier. Now find the back of the assembly and give it a good shove out. Even with the track resting uneven inside that ring, you should be able to get it to move a LITTLE bit. I was able to get a centimeter or so on the front. This was plenty of room. Look at that empty track where the lever used to be and laugh at it. You are gonna be fine. You will not have to pay VW the labor fee to do this. We almost there. Using the hands the creator gave you, pull the flat, top part of the plastic housing assembly directly AWAY from the headlight assembly with your left hand, and pull out on the headlight assembly from the front with your right. You only have to move it enough to get the peg out of that inner ring track. It's only about three inches long, and once it's out, it's out. After some maneuvering, you should be able to pull the headlight assembly all the way out and continue with the rest of the instructions. Remeber, exert some force on the thing. It's ok to manhandle it a little. I mean, it's already broken. Worst case scenario, you'll have to go to the dealership like you were going to in the first place. Anyway, this whole process took me about ten minutes to figure out. Good luck!
