Remove the rear speaker cover from your 1999 Mercury Cougar speaker. Remove the rear speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the speaker. Reverse the process to install the new speaker.

If it is the same as my 2000 Navigator, you have to remove the inside panel of the tail gate, which is held on with hidden clips on the inside of the panel, a $10 tool at most automotive stores will assist in removing the panel. You must also remove the strap that is held on with 2 Philips screws. (it would have been easier for us if Lincoln had installed an access panel).

there are 2 torx screws on the top of each lens. remove them,and the lens is heldin place by 4 connectors.you just pull the lens off and it snaps back in when done
The 1999 Pontiac Grand Am speakers can be removed by removing the speaker cover. The speaker cover is held in place with two screws. Remove the speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the speaker.
