In order to change the speakers you have to remove the whole door skin. It looks like it comes off but it is actually molded right to the door skin. IMPORTANT ... Do not try to remove the speaker cover the previous owner of my 94 had to get a new door skin because he did that. Hope it helps. The door panel is molded to the door, but only in a few spots. If you release all of the screws from the door panel you can pull it off. Now the molds are going to break but if you put the panel back on after you change the speakers, it will bolt up nice and snug if you do it correctly. There could possibly be a little bit of rattle in the panel do to the molds not being there but a few pieces of double stick tape will fix that problem. Hope this helps.
Yes, you must remove the inside door panel. This is how I did it on mine.
On the model without power windows, I removed the armrest - two big phillip's screws. Removed the plastic cover from around the interior door opening handle - carefully pry it open vertically with a flat screw driver. Removed the door lock pull - just unscrewed it. And there is a clip holding on the window crank. I used a needle nose pliers to reach in and pull that little copper colored metal clip out.
Then, I covered a wide flat screwdriver with some tape to keep from scratching the door. Then slide the screwdriver in between the metal of the door and the vinly coated interior door panel around the edges. There are about 8 plastic connectors. Get the screw driver as close as possible to one in the bottom rear corner, and pry the door panel up. If you apply the pressure very close to the connector, It should not damage either the connector or the door panel. It should stay connected to the door panel (vinyl coated fiber board) and pop out of the metal door.
Slide the screwdriver slowly along the bottom and both sides, and pop out each connector from the door. When that is done, with the window rolled down, lift the panel up and slightly back I think back, I did this over a year ago. Just wiggle it a bit back and forward, anyway.
