1. Take the whole console all around the stereo out first.
2. Make sure you pull your shifter to neutral so you can get it out easily.
3. Now take out the switch that dims your dash lights (near the wiper switch)
4. Take out the knobs to the fan and the other nob
5. Leave the four ways switch in.
6. There will be two screws that you will have to take out, but before you get to that you should be able to pull it out just a little (GENTLY!)
7. Under the steering column near the gas pedal there is a cable that goes to the fan. You will need to unplug it.
I know... I am doing this now to my car. Got past all that now I am installing a CD player.
And what a mess it is!!!

Begin by removing the decorative radio retaining cover. Remove the radio retaining screws. Slide the radio out, remove the wiring harness and the antenna cable from the back of the radio.

remove the exterior trim peace that surrounds the outer edges of the radio. Then there should be either two 10mm bolts or four phillip head screws holding the radio in place remove them and gently remove the radio from it slot and then unplug the wire harnesses and antenna in the back of the radio. repeat in reverse to reinstall.

first don't remove your stock stereo if u havn"t already. The radio works with the carscomputer to reset codes and other stuff. you can get an adapter that turns your speaker wire on the back of the radio into left and right channel to hook up to an aftermarket amplifier. then hook up your new speakers and sub woofer to the amp and use the stock radio to get your grove on. or install an after market radio in the glove box or middle console but don't remove the stock radio. get rid of the stock amp not powerful enough.

behind the farthest black button on the left is a screw, to remove get a screwdriver and pry it out.. also behind ashtray is 2 screws

First you must remove the climate control knobs, then unsnap the cover panel with a screwdriver. Remove the two screw behind the panel and from behind the drink holder. Unsnap the plastic frame from the radio and lift it up to remove. Then remove 4 more screws fro the radio and it will slide out.
According to my brother (who is a mechanic), The stock stereo in the protege requires radio removal tools (2 sets) to remove -- you can get them at just about any parts store. Just carefully remove the molding around the radio, insert the tools all the way and then pull them outward to release the clips. The radio should just slide out.

Remove ashtray by lifting up & out. You will see 2 Phillips head screws. Take them out. Remove ashtray bracket assembly. You will see 2 clips on the bottom of radio on both sides press both tabs down & pull out radio.
First thing is to remove the surround from the auto/stick shift, then unscrew the ac/heat control panel, then unscrew the top bzel from that panel to get that off and you will see the mounting screws for the radio
