Best Answer

Depends on the type of bearing and where it's used.

Usually, it'll be more acurate to talk about replace than repair.

For something like a car, a wheel bearing consists of:

  • inner race
  • rollers or balls
  • outer race
The inner race is pressed onto an axle, the outer race is pressed into a hub, and the rollers/balls go inbetween them. To replace, you pull the inner race off the axle and the outer race out of the hub. Press on/in the new parts and you're done. The above is simplified, but the exact procedure varies from vehicle to vehicle, so I couldn't give it to you anyhow.

Can you repair intermediate shaft on Ford Probe?

Whether this part can be repaired or not depends on the damage to the intermediate shaft. If the bearing is bad, then a new bearing can be purchased and pressed in / on. If the shaft however is bent or has other physical damage, then no, repair is not possible.

If you threw a rod bearing do you have to get the crank turned?

If the only damage done by the thrown rod bearing is that the crankshaft has become scored at that bearing's location (called a journal), you might be able to get away with having that particular crankshaft journal turned ("turned" here means to have the crankshaft reground and polished to smooth out scratches caused by the thrown rod bearing), as well as replacing the bad rod bearings with oversized (thicker) ones at the journals that were reground, to compensate for the slightly smaller diameter of the reground journals, but often more damage has also been done (bent or broken piston rod, damage to the piston and/or chamber at that location, etc.), requiring more repair or a replacement engine. But it's worth dropping the oil pan to have a look at the damage--you could get lucky.

How do you replace the front wheel bearing on 1995 civic?

First, you need to remove he hub (what wheel and brake are attached to) from the suspension. This can be done with ordinary tools fairly easily. Just follow the directions in the repair manual. When the hub is removed, the bearing will need to be pressed out and a new bearing pressed in. Take the hub and new bearing you got from your parts supplier to a machine shop or auto repair shop and have them press the old bearing out and the new one in. Then put everything back together on the car and that's it. I was charged $30 for the pressing, and $50 for the bearing.

What causes your car to make a grinding noise only at low velocity?

Most likely a bad bearing, or a dry bearing, usually from a wheel bearing. Reason being. At high speeds, the bearing is spinning too fast (you may just hear a slight whingeing sound), but when the bearing spins slower, the rollers, or balls are not thrown out by centrifugal force, allowing you to hear a more grinding noise.
