You don't. Let it die.
its on the trunk lid.. in the center of the lid.. where it latches
I assume you mean via remote. There is a solenoid on the trunk release that when activated by a relay pulls the release. The key when turned mechanically pulls the release.
Check the release fuse first. Then check the relay, and the switch. If these are all ok, then check the solenoid at the release inside of the trunk.
On a 2001 Lincoln LS : In the rear power distribution box ( which is " live " ) located by the battery and spare tire : Mini-fuse ( # 1 ) is a 15 amp fuse for the decklid release solenoid according to the Owner Guide
There is no key for the trunk on the 81'. It is an electronic control. There is a button when you open the glove box that opens the trunk.Tthat button is wired to a solenoid that will release the trunk latch.
The power trunk lid has to be activated by pushing the trunk release button on the remote twice. to close the trunk,, do like wise.
In your glove box should be two buttons one is the trunk release button and the other one is a flasher button.
The lock is behind the Lincoln emblem on the trunk. Or press the lockable trunk release button on the inside driver door panel.
the seat release is in the trunk.
a bad solenoid will prevent the air ride from automatically adjusting the ride comfort, for example,if the car has extra weight in trunk, the air ride will not kick in and level the car,
If the problem happens BOTH when you try to electrically open the door AND when you pull the manual release in the trunk, then the latch mechanism probably needs adjustment or lubrication. If it happens ONLY when using the electric release, then the solenoid may be bad or out of position.
Read your manual. There is a switch in the glove box to disable the trunk release button on the dash. you lock the glove box with the regular key. When you give someone the valet key they can not get in the trunk.
