I don't know how to repair it but in order to replace it you would have to take your inkate manifold off to take it out and the tire guard to get to the bolts and when you lossen the alternator you have to play around with it to get it through the top... it seems hard but it really isn't. I have a 9…9 dodge avenger with a 2.5 in it and i had to change mine like 2 times and wiat till you c what the price of it. I hope that answered ur question if it didn't sorry. ( Full Answer )
Don't see any date here, so I don't know how likely it is you fixed your alternator. If not, this is one of the best pieces to work on and troubleshoot. I put together a whole bunch of my own curriculum that I used for nine years in a community college auto electrical class. The operation of this sy…stem is boiled down to a one-page document that explains how the system works. I can also give you troubleshooting tips, and can send you to a dandy parts supplier. You should know, however, that there are a lot of these in the "core" bins at the junkyards. I used to buy a lot of them for 2 bucks each, and could usually make three good units out of five. There's no reason you can't fix this alternator for just a few bucks, and an hour or two of your time. Check the pulley alignment on the alternator (as you view itfrom the side) and also the other other pulleys that use the samebelt. The pulleys should all line up otherwise the problem you'rehaving will occur. Even a small misalignment can create problems. Also, replace the belt tensioner and check …bearing condition in theother pulleys. ( Full Answer )
The only way to repair a belt is to replace it. It's kinda a pain in the butt on this car, I know I did it today. There is a 8mm tensioning bolt toward the front of the car, between the alternator and the air conditioner compressor. Loosen the 14mm bolt in the center of the idler pulley, and then lo…osen the 8mm tensioner bolt till the belt can be slipped off. This takes a great deal of patience and small hands are helpful too. I had to use a small wrench as there is no room for a ratchet. Reverse the process to install the new belt. ( Full Answer )
Why has the engine fan ceased since the water pump repair- the fan runs when another power source is given Is it a sensor or fuse The alternator belt has been replaced at the same time Check what?
Answer . Have the fan motor checked and if fine the start with wires and senors to fuses. Wires colud be bare in some place and a Volts meter can be very helpful in these cases.
On a 1987 acura integra is repairing the alternator a viable option to buy you a little extra time or is it just as costly?
Answer . \nMost of the time it is a lot cheeper to repair then replace. It could be as simple as a bad set of brushes or a bad diod. But repairing it is always cheeper then a replacement. Look in the yellow pages under alternator repair and rebuilding.Take it to them and thy can repair it.
When a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS battery alternator starter are ok yet try to start and something clicks but won't turn over could it be cause by a faulty neutral safety switch how much to repair?
Answer . also check the ignition cylider to see if its worn. if it is the theftlock system doesn't recognize the key it will disable starting. Answer . \nThe clicking is your starter motor, what happens is the starter gets jammed when it is old and it will get stuck on the outside casing of t…he motor, try to unjam it by lightly tapping on it with a hammer while trying to start it, be carefull of your radiator fan.. Answer . Yes, it could be the neutral safety switch. It could also be the key switch or a bad connector somewhere between the key and the starter. It could also be a bad connection in the large cable between the battery and the starter. Don't absolutely eliminate the starter as the source of the problem unless you have thoroughly checked it out and are able to start the car using some kind of jumper wire to the starter. If you don't already know how to do that, don't try it.\nAs to the cost, it could vary between quite a range depending on how long it takes for a shop to find the problem and the cost of the parts that need to be replaced. Anywhere from $25 up to several hundred. ( Full Answer )
Repair faulty alternator . \nMost likely the brushes have worn down to the point to where they no longer make electrical contact with the slip rings of the rotor.\n. \nIf a Nippondenso alternator, remove the sheetmetal cover, the brush holder is a white plastic block secured by two screws. Remo…ve the holder, unsolder the brush wires (the brushes themselves are carbon/copper blocks). Solder in the leads of the new brushes , allowing enough slack so that the brushes can make contact to the slip rings. Do not forget the brush springs; they slip over the leads and push the brushes against the slip rings.\n. \nOther less frequent alternator troubles include defective voltage regulator module, defective rectifier assembly, bad diode trio, worn bearings, worn slip rings(very deeply grooved from brushes), short circuited turns in armature or field windings, corrosion of stator core causing swelling with cracking of alternator housing or collapse of stator so that it strikes the rotor.\n. \nHowever, by far the most frequent alternator malady is worn brushes. A set costs about $5 at the auto parts store.\n. \nDrew ( Full Answer )

The bracket or metal plate that the alternator mounts to on your 1990 Chevy G20 van broke Any Idea how much this might run to repair and is this something I might be able to do myself?
Answer . Take it to any good welding shop and have it repaired. Should be relatively inexpensive.
Answer . No! The leak in the water pump shows a seal is failing and should be changed as quick as you can. It will only get worse and then you could blow or over heat something like the engine and have to replace it. Not a good thing.
Answer . \nIs the alternator actually working. It is possible to buy a new alternator that is defective.

To repair water leak under the slab should they dig under the slab or find alternate route through walls to get to the main?
assuming that it is a waterline leak, i would suggest the alternate route for simplicity sake.
An alternator is an electromechanical device that converts mechanical energy to alternating currant electrical energy.
The alternator generates power to run the car and charge thebattery. An alternator in a vehicle generates Alternate Current (AC) insteadof Direct Current (DC) electricity to power the vehicle.
Both are correct, but which one applies depends on context. Here is an example sentence: One will repair an automobile unless it has already repaired by another. If we conjugate the verb repair, it's like this: I will repair the gate. I repair the gate. I repaired the gate. I have repaire…d the gate. The adjective might be either one, too. Here's a set of examples: The repair part, which was ordered yesterday, arrived quickly. The repaird part, which was sent to the machine shop yesterday, was delivered speedily. Again, context will determine which one is used. ( Full Answer )
Alternator require extensive work to be repaired. On a 2004 Hyundaiit is best to replace a broken unit with a new part.
Re 1989 Dodge Caravan 3L V6 your alternator is not sitting level on the engine It looks like there is a crack on the engine where the bracket connects Can this be repaired?
Is it on the engine or the part that bolts to the engine? The alternator bracket is a large part that bolts to the engine and you can see very little of it .We've spent 2 days trying to find a used one.Same thing 1989 3.0 voyager. Alternator sittng slightly crooked and developed a annoying noise tha…t would go away if you pulled hard on the alternator.No-one wants to take one off because it takes a couple hrs. There are specialty welding shops that weld cast aluminum. Just right now we found a shop that does it . $40.00 and it'll be ready in a couple hrs. If I only did this in the first place . By the way the part is discontinued and was about $160.00 If you haven't taken the part off there is a fair amount of time involved to do it.You need to take it off in order to get it welded. How do you repair a Pontiac Montana 2000 turn signal that just flashes quickly but doesn't alternate with the other bulb?
I take it the "doesn't alternate with the other bulb" refers to theone front side marker being weaker than the front facing indicatorlight when that turn signal is on.. There is a ground fault in oneof your wire connections into your taillight. This will alsomanifest itself as dash blinkers coming o…n when the brake isapplied, a flashing of all taillights when the blinker and brakesare activated at the same time or when the daytime running lightsare on and one bulb doesn't lite. It is usually a connector foryour rear light assembly. Remove the plug from the tail lightassembly starting with the side that have the problem. You willfind that the pin to your ground will have a blackish tint to thepin (on the brake light assembly). Clean this pin and thecorresponding plug recepticle with a brush, nailfile, sandpaper, etc. I added a tiny piece of tin foil to the plug in the ground pinhole to ensure a tight connection. Plug in the unit while notinstalled and see if that eliminates the blinker lights from comingon on the dash when the brakes are applied and/or the blinker is onand your blinkers alternate normally on the front side and frontmarkers. It is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy on a car. It works by:the alternator creates an electric field by spinning a magnetic rotor with direct current inside stator windings. an ac voltage is developed and rectified dc. this voltage is compared to the battery voltage and… determines the current through the rotor. if the battery voltage is lower than the alternator voltage, more current through the rotor increases the magnetic field and creates a larger alternator voltage. if the battery voltage is higher, less current through the rotor decreases the alternator voltage. If your alternator dies 4 miles from a repair shop can you charge it enough from a jumpstart to make it?
yes you can just let the charger sit on the battery for a good ten to fifteen minutes and the car will run on battery power enough to get you a good 5 to ten miles
You have alternatives when there is more than one possibility and you can choose between at least two things.
This is an easy answer. The alternator is hooked (through wires blue and black) to the battery. So every time you start an engine the alternator kicks on and charges the battery. That's practically how it works. To add a bit to the above- an alternator produces an alternating electrical curre…nt (unlike a generator, which produces a direct current- DC vs AC) On modern cars, the alternator produces the current used to charge the battery, and operate electrical equipment on the car, such as lights, wipers, radio, etc. ( Full Answer )
The devices that develop electric power are a generator (for direct current), or an alternator (alternating current). In a car, an alternator is used, with a rectifier, because of size and weight considerations.
The field winding carbon brush may have worn down and need replacing. The unit can be tested by spinning the pulley and applying +12 volts to the field winding if the pulley now resists turning it is generating electricity. I'm not sure how many billable hours they charge for this but here's a ball park estimate. $125 for alternator (Autozone) they'll charge you a few bucks on top of that. Maybe $3-400 total depending on mechanic. They will also recommend you change your belts too. While the alternator is pulled… they must remove your belts (Serpentine or Power steering or both). Have them change them if they are worn, thus you wont have to change them for a while. Don't let them charge any extra labor for that as they will have to take the belts off to replace the alternator!!!! ( Full Answer )

ok i have a 1994 ford probe 2.0, it should be the same, the alternator is behide the engine, i did it with just normal tools and didnt have to remove the cross member or half shaft, what i did is 1 remove negative terminal 2 jack the car up as far as you can 3 i unloosend the bolt that moves t…he alternator back and forth a little then went under and loosend the mounting bolt as much as i could 4 then i went back to the bolt that moves the alternator back and forth and took it out completely (pain in the butt bc u can only move the wrench 1/2 a turn a time, use extensions if u have) 5 remove the mounting bolts completely 6 then with the bolts out i used a hammer to remove it from the mount under neath 7 now with it free i took off the wires (thee is a nut holding the negative on pop the black cap with a flat head and remove it. 8 then i removed the mounting bracket (3 bolts) 9 then here comes the fun, i took the old alternator out by the half shaft i used a hammer and cow bar, and twist it so the pulley is facing the other pulleys (or just how eve u can) 10 to get the new one in all i did was play with it to get it over the half shaft and a little muscle to push it up in and got it. 11 then just reinstall everything. there is 2 other ways to do it and one is remove the half shaft and that would make life simple also u can remove the crossmember and pull it out back and down by the exost pipe it took me 2 days to figure this out so i hope it helps the bolts are all 1/2 or 7/16 ( Full Answer )
in place of, or as an alternative to; "Felix became a herpetologist instead"; "alternatively we could buy a used car"
1. Put the front of the car on jackstands and dis-connect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove passenger side wheel and lower splash guards. Using low profile 3/8" socket wrench or breaker bar, remove the serpentine belt from the alternator pulley. 3. Dis-connect the passenger side tie rod from the… knuckle. 4. remove the driver side wheel. 5. Get 3 or 4 feet of extensions for your 3/8 socket wrench and feed them through the driver side wheel well to the upper bolt of the alternator. Yo may need to secure the socket & extensions on the bolt from up top then get back down to the driver wheel well, but it's worth the few seconds. Remove the upper bolt. 6. From below the car, loosen the lower bolt, but do not remove. 7. There is a small bracket on the alternator between mounting bolts. Remove the 10mm bolt that secures the bracket to the block. 8. From above, pry the upper tab from the mounting bracket. 9. Below the car, hold the alternator while removing the lower bolt. 10. Dis-connect the electrical to the Alternator. 11. Maneuver the alternator out through the passenger side wheel well. Takes a little thinking, but it'll come out. 12. Transfer the small bracket to the new alternator. 13. Feed the alternator in through the passenger side and make electrical connections. 14. Secure the lower alternator tab and hand tighten the lower bolt. 15. Pivot the alternator up. The upper tab may not easily fit into place. Tighten the 10mm bolt in the center bracket to the block. This will press the upper tab into place. 16. Install the upper bolt and hand tighten. Fully tighten the lower bolt now. 17. Use extensions from the driver wheel well to tighten the upper bolt. Remainder of this project is simple re-assembly. An experienced shade tree mechanic can do this alternator R&R in under an hour after his tools are set out. ( Full Answer )

Any alternative for a broken muffler' you don't have enough savings to have my car being repaired by an expert I'll appreciate any advice?
Yeah, I agree that mufflers may fall prey to rust and can even fall off due to excessive rusting. It is still best to have a specialist look into it. But in any case, as an alternative, use a muffler repair tape to bring down the noise level and reduce exhaust emissions. This aluminum foil tape is r…outinely used for sealing mufflers and other metal objects that must withstand high temperatures. To apply the tape, turn off your car and use a jack to lift up the back end so that you can inspect the muffler. Use several layers of tape to patch any holes or damage that you find. The muffler may also be making noise because the hangers that attach it to the car are loose. As you're wrapping the muffler in tape, inspect the hangers, too. They may need to be replaced or tightened. ( Full Answer )
