How do you repair an outside door handle on a 91 Explorer if there is a threaded rod that is not connected to anything inside the door?

Get a replacement 'retainer clip' from your dealership for under $3. You might find the pieces of the old one in the bottom of your door. It will clip onto that rod, then snap into the hole on the latch.

The threading (spiral screwy part), is on the outside of the barbell, instead of actually inside the barbell (internally threaded).

It has a tip(the size of a crayon) sticking out of a threaded end. It is located behind the grill. You go to an auto parts store/website to get a picture and the price.
