I removed the door panel and found that one of the door release rods had slipped out of the door release mechanism. The plastic retaining clip had cracked after 20 years of use. I bought a replacement at my dealer for less than six bucks, installed it, reinstalled the rod and everything is now working fine. It is a tight fit inside the door so give yourself enough time and a good flashlight to get the job done. Hint: I used tape back-wound around my finger to get the retaining clip into place.

They wanted $80 and i talked them down to $50. Sounds pretty nice. Not like a rice rocket, but a lower growl.
They are not aftermarket, they just were not done at the Toyota factory. They are factory authorized conversions done in California. I believe the same company may have made GM's convertibles during the late 80's as well.
Brake line diagrams for a 1988 Toyota truck can be found in automotive part stores. Service repair manuals also carry copies show all the brake lines for these trucks.
