How do you repair the thermostat on a Mazda Millenia?
HOW TO REPAIR A THERMOSTAT FOR 1995 MILLENIA MAZDA? A few months ago I decided to replace the thermostat on my '95 Millenia (bad decision!!), since the repair shop wanted a couple hundred to do it. I spent an hour looking for it on the passenger side of radiator/cooling hoses. But no!! It is on driver side where the big rubber hose from bottom of radiator connects to a metal pipe and then to thermostat housing. Getting it all apart is the fun part (NOT!!) which took me another 2 or 3 hours. You have to remove or disassemble a bunch of stuff to get to the housing--but just follow your nose and it will all come apart. The new part was about $25, so the labor is the costly part. If you're patient, though, you can do it--and it feels good to get it in and working when you finish up!! Good luck!!
The thermostat is located as you face the front of the car to the right just beneath the motor and to the left bottom of the air filter. If you cannot find it, face the front of the car and find the right radiator hose that goes into the motor. It is not repairable it needs to be replaced\ Should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator Remove this housing Note how thermostat is installed Clean both surfaces Replace thermostat and gasket Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an airlock Start engine and look for leaks Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on Re-check coolant level
