Look inside the trunk. On either side you will find oval shaped access panels. Carefully pry them off with a screwdriver - you'll see the slots where you should insert your screwdriver. Inside you'll find a large plastic nut. Remove the nut. From the outside of the vehicle, carefully pull the entire tailight assembly from the fender. It's a bit hard at first, but once you get a finger under the rubber weatherstripping you should be able to wiggle it loose.

Stop light switches on aircooled VWs are all in the same place--screwed into the master cylinder--so this goes for all of them. First, find the master cylinder. It's bolted to the firewall, in front of the brake pedal--which means it's behind the driver's side front tire. The thing with the big black rubber electrical plug plugged into it, is the stop light switch. A car with dual-circuit master cylinder has two switches. You pull the plug, unscrew the switch with a big crescent wrench, screw in a new one, snug it down and plug the plug into it. And then comes the most important part--bleed the whole brake system.

Yes you have to replace your broken tail light. If you don't , there is a big chance that the police will stop you and give you a ticket. Because it's not legal to drive around with a white light there.

I think it holds around 9.2 gallons. I overfilled mine once, and it leaked from the breather hose. Best to stop about 9 gallons on the fill.
