To replace the trigger assembly on the 50 hp Mercury outboard, the flywheel and the stator assembly must first be removed. Next, remove the link rod from the timing advance arm and remove the trigger wires from the switchbox. Take note of how the trigger wires are routed to aid in installation of the new trigger. Now the trigger can be lifted out of the top end cap. While noting the number of turns, screw the link arm out of the old trigger, and remove the retainer nut. Install the retainer nut into the new trigger, screw in the link rod, and slide back into the end cap. Reassemble in reverse order.
