Well, to replace the timing belt on these things is a pain! so prices usually go up into 800 bucks. The water pump is right in between that.
You have to take off the following
-valve cover
-both drive belts
-timing cover
-drain coolant
Once you take off the timing cover(black plastic along side of engine) you'll see the timing belt and youll see the water pump from there there should be just bolts that you take off.
Once off, replace it along with the gasket screwing the bolts opposite to each other. I think you can run the engine without the timing cover back on not sure so you can see if there are any leaks. once you put it on everything just placed in reverse order
Could you tell me how would you replace the oil pump on a Mazda Protege?
location of fuel pump relay
1993 protege has it in tank uder rear seat. do not need to drop tank.
release gas pressure, get to the pump mechanism under the back seat, replace the pump in the mechanism
powersteering belt off first, then water pump, each has its own ten.
Right on the power steering pump. pointing to the front of the car.
In the fuel tank. 2.5 hours.
The only fuel filter on the 1999 Protege is a "sock" on the fuel pump pickup tube inside the gas tank. The sock can't be replaced seperately from Mazda, you have to replace the fuel pump which does not include the sending unit.
You will need to drop the fuel tank and get close to fuel pump. Its a 100k mile part, based on Mazda
you do nothing
In the gas tank.
in the petrol tank
