Yes 4 cylinder have chain and 6 have belts.
tools...and ...everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the local library should have a professional shop manual available, to make copies of, in the Reference section...good luck:)
you need to drain all the freeon out of the system. take the belts off. and take the bolts on the compressor out. its best to get under the truck. and there is a lot of wiggling to get out.
loosen the manual tensioners and the alt bracket.
Loosen the belts, unbolt the old alternator, bolt the new one on, tighten the belts back up.
You have three belts,ac,alt. and fan,and power steering.also timing belt.go to autozone, enter your vehicle info. and register and you can use their repair guide.
Check your belts for tightness or glazed edges. If the belts are loose, tighten them. If the edges are glazed, either break the glaze with a piece of scotch brite or replace the belts if they are worn.
Loosen the tension on the belts, unbolt the old one, bolt in the new one, and retighten the belts.
the pump is behind the fan. first drain the coolent. then you have to take off the belts and the fan. and remove the air intake. once all that's done you can get to the pump. i had the radiator out when i did it but its not necessary. it just makes for more working room
I believe that you have the VG30 engine, if this is true you have to remove all of the belts and to do that you must find all of the adjuster screws for the accessories that are attached to the appropiate belts and lossen the pivot bolts. once all other belts are removed you can begin replacing. my advice is to replace all the belts while you are there and save your self from the hassle of this again.
