There is a tensioner bolt that you need to geta wrench onto to loosen the tension on the belt. After that you get underneaththe vehicle and remove the retaining bolts and drop the alternator a little to disconnect the plug on the back. Install is reverse...
If the battery checks out okay, you can replace just the voltage regulator inside the alternator.
No prob: Loosen the adjusterbolt, give the alternator a whack with a SOFT hammer towards the engine, remove the old belt mount the new one! I usally use the handle of the hammer as "lever" behind the alt. when tightening the new belt! Note: you should be able to move it 1cm. up and dowm!!! Starlet4life.dk
On my 1984 Cressida Wagon the fuel pump is located behind the fuel tank under the car towards the rear near the right rear tire. External to the fuel tank.
I'll take it that its a basic belt drive alternator with a mount and cables running to and from it. With that, take the belt off that drives the pulley, and whatever belts that prevent you from taking the one you need off. ** Before you start working, ensure the battery is not connected for safety and disconnect the +(red) cable from the alternator and whatever other cables are attached. Unbolt the alternator from its mounts and MAKE SURE the new alternator has the same output and design or you could burn up a lot of electronics and even your battery. Good Luck -- Boost
Hey Tim==It is quite involved and it is best if you get a manual on your car from the parts store or MOTORLIT.COM GoodluckJoe
what does sta mean on a 1984 ford f150 alternator
The system shouldn't exceed 15 volts. If the battery tests out okay and you are mechanically inclined, you can replace just the voltage regulator inside the original 1984 alternator. A replacement regulator should cost aprox $30.
Not Much..
