Loosen the bolt in the center of the idler pulley. Then loosen the pulley and remove the belt. There is 3 bolts behind the idler pulley that remove the entire pulley assembly. One is located above the pulley to the top right and the other 2 bolts are below the pulley on either side. It will help to take the wheel off and remove the plastic access panel behind the wheel to the front side of the axle. Then you can drop the pulley out from the bottom and replace the pulley or whole assembly either one at this point. Reverse instructions to reassemble.

How do you replace the belt tensioner on a 92 Saturn sl1?

Jack up the car and remove the tire from the passenger side of the car. Remove the plastic inner splash guards to expose the tensioner. Put a wrench on the nut that holds the pulley on and push it clockwise to remove tension on the serpentine belt. While doing this, pull the serpentine belt off to remove pressure on the tensioner. Once you have completed this task, you will need a 10mm socket; I suggest using an black impact socket; I broke 3 regular sockets and then finally bought a set of good sockets at Sears $30. for a set of 10. Remove the 2 nuts, replace the tensioner and then replace the belt the same way you removed it. The hardest part is removing the 2 nuts on the tensioner; they are extremely tight. Good luck. If you need more details, ask and I will update this message. Regards, Damian

How do you you replace a serpentine belt on a 1997 Chevy Venture Van?

The auto parts store will have a tool for rent/deposit that has a bar with a socket end. Really, all you will need is the bar. There will be a serpentine belt diagram buried under grime on the alternator mount. Use that as a guide for the new belt. The tensioner is the wheel in the middle, surrounded by the other wheels. After you figure out the belt position, stick the end of the bar against the tensioner wheel and position the far end on a purchase below it. You can now lever against the tensioner and slide the belt on. This should take 30 seconds. Good luck!

How do you remove a serpentine belt from a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer?

Last time I did mine, I pressed hard on the longest run of belt. That moved the tensioner to which I reached down and applied pressure with my other hand to keep it from returning. I then popped the loose belt off the alternator pulley. Took about 30 seconds. If you know the serpentine belt is bad and you are going to replace it, just cut it with tin snips. I figure that will take about 10 seconds. To put it back on, you'll need to move that tensioner by putting a wrench or pry bar on it. There should be a socket cut into your tensioner that will accept a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar.

How do you tighten a serpentine belt on a 1995 Windstar GL when it is loose?

The tension is the result of the tensioner and the belt itself. The tensioner is the top center wheel that looks like an idler on the 3.0 , and the upper left dual connected wheel on the 3.8. 3.8 engine, A 15 mm wrench should be able to rotate the assembly clock wise on the 3.8 (99% of all sold) . It should snap back and tension the belt, if it doesn't snap back, replace the tensioner complete assembly, ~ $62.00 , if it does snap back but the tension is too loose, replace the belt $20-30... heck replace both this a a brief available online discussion & drawings http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1d/2c/0f/0900823d801d2c0f.jsp

How do you loosen the tensioner to replace the serpentine belt on Dodge Grand Caravan 2001?

You will need to buy a special tool that allows you to release the tension. It is fairly cheap and you can buy one at your local auto parts store. The one I bought was called a "Serpentine belt tool kit" and cost around $25-$30. Hope this helps.

When to change belt in engine on 99Pontiac Sunfire?

well, if you notice any cracking or fraying of the belt, replace. If you're concerned about it, replace it. Mine is getting to the point where I need to replace it soon. I priced belts on the usual parts house web sites and it looks like they cost around $30 dependent on quality. The job is not terrible, but I suggest getting a friend to help you. Getting the belt properly around all the pulleys and the tensioner can be frustratingly difficult. You'll probably need to loosen the alternator to gain the slack needed to do the job. FriPilot
