How do you replace the egr valve on a 96 mercury mystique ls v6?
Pretty easy actually. The egr valve is that flyin' saucer
lookin' thing on top of the engine next to the Upper Intake
Manifold. You'll see it back near the firewall of the engine bay on
the driver side. Should be two bolts holding it onto the UIM, and
perhaps a larger nut on the underside, I'm not certain. It is very
rare for the EGR valve to need replacement in these cars. Try
searching for the Check Engine Light code on a contour web site
& you should find plenty of info on how to fix your problem
with minimal fuss. Typical causes for emissions related CELs are
the DPFE sensor (easy fix), cleaning out the EGR passages behind
the throttle body (easy fix), often both.
