I believe it unscrews, or unbolts and the fuel pump is right there. This was done in order to prevent having to drop the whole tank. Secondly, be careful when taking out, as the floater device is still attached.

On a 1984 Nissan 300ZX the fuel pump turns on with the key. For a couple of seconds to pressurize the fuel system for initial start-up. Once the engines oil pressure has raised to normal operating pressure. The fuel pump remains on.
My suggestion is: If your not a good mechanic find a good Nissan shop. It isn't an easy job without the right tools and knowledge.

The fuel tank capacity is 19.0 gallons i have an 87 300zx and it only has an 8 gallon tank.
