I know this is long after the fact for whoever asked this, but I thought I would provide a bit of valuable advise for anyone else who came along. Go to your local parts store (or wal mart or Canadian tire or whatever store you have) and pick up a haynes or chilton repair manual for your car. For about $11 it gives you step by step instructions on how to do everything. It will save you a lot of effort and money. Trust me. It may also save you from getting frustrated and/or hurt.
I just replaced my heater core in my 1995 Ford Escort. You have to take the dash completely out of the car, unhook your negative battery cable, then unhook the hoses on the back firewall, there will be 2 about right in the center of the firewall, they are hooked to your heater core. While you are under the hood, unclip the speedometer cable(needs to be done to get the cluster panel out.) You have to drop your steering wheel before you can get the cluster panel out, take out the cluster panel, radio, heater controls, glove box. The core is IN the plastic housing, so the housing has to come out to change it. Lots of screws and wires to keep track of, so make sure you remember where everything goes. Took me quite awhile, but saved me about $500.00 to do it myself.

i have a 1992 ford escort lx 1.9l. will a 1995 ford escort engine fit. and what would have to replace.
To replace the heater core of a Ford Escort, all years, the dash has to come out. This is a job even the most veteran mechanics will cringe at. Take it somewhere to get it done.
The 1995 Ford Escort series of vehicles have a conventional heater core design and location. The heater hoses through the firewall are on the right-front (passenger) side of the vehicle.?æ
