I just got through replacing my heater core on my 1993 Mercury Tracer and it isn't a picnic by a long shot. I answered this question once this week already, but instead of trying to give the complete answer here right now what I have done is to copy the complete instruction sheets off of a Ford Factory repair manual that I bought. So if you want a copy of these instructions, just drop me a line at johnks4x4@aol.com and I will e-mail you a copy at no charge. I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and I know how frustrating it can be to want to do something and not be able to get any quality advice or answers. So feel free to e-mail me at the above address and you will get all the help you need. John K. a.k.a. Scooter johnks4x4@aol.com p.s. That answer that someone left about the cost and hours of labor are probably correct, but if you have a few tools and some time, you can sure save yourself some money. I bought my heater core at Advance Auto Parts for under $35.
The Mercury Tracer heater core can be found behind the passenger side kick plate. The heater core can be removed by disconnecting the water supply lines and removing the retaining bolts.
How much will it cost me to replace the heater core in my 1999 Mercury
The dash must be completely removed in order to gain access to the heater box. Then the heater hoses are disconnected and the heater box is removed and opened up. That gains access to the heater core for relacement.
