How do you replace the ignition switch actuator on a 1988 ford f150?

Replacing the ignition switch actuator on a 1988 Ford f150 is a complicated and multi-step process. First, remove the necessary panels to gain access to the steering column. Second, remove the screws and bolts holding the steering column to the dash. Third, locate the ignition switch and remove the actuator rod, replacing it with a new one. Re-attach everything to the dash and replace the panels. If this does not work, or seems too confusing, it may be in one's best interest to seek out a professional mechanic.

How do you replace the electronic ignition switch in a 1983 Ford F-150?

I just today, 11/25/2005, changed an ignition switch on a 1981 Ford F150 that has only 63,000 miles. It took less than 2 minutes. Under the ignition switch there is a small 1/8" hole that has a pin in it. It is spring loaded. Turn the ignition almost to the start position and depress the pin into the column. Pull the ignition switch straight out. Look down into the cavity where the switch came out and notice the 3/32" channel that is in the 2:00 position on the cavity. Make sure to line up the new switch so that the square male channel slids into the female walls inside the column. Just slide the new switch in fully and it will snap into place when the spring loaded pin hits the sweet spot. No problems with the starting of the engine and you are ready to go.
