On the backside of your steering wheel there are two screws you need to remove. These are covered over with circular covers which you can easily remove. Having removed the 2 screws you can gently remove the whole unit which contains the air bag. You will see the control switches for your cruise control and your light bulbs for your cruise control (octagon like head - may be blue in color). You can turn this counter clockwise and lift off. The cruise controls may also be released from their switches by gently pulling apart (should you have need to replace them) . Some people remove these when the rubber touch pads get old however they are needed to keep your horn grounded. It is basically removing only two buttons in the back of your steering wheel and the rest is a breeze. Hope this has been helpful. The three buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are your cruise control buttons. On, off, and reset.

if its the same as mine, the on and off are on the left, and the = + - are on the right. they are for your cruise control. on turns it on, =sets the speed, and + makes the cruise control engage.

You can't- You have to buy the whole cruise control buttons ( about 85 bucks from the dealer).

There are a few reasons why the cruise control does not work in a car. The fuse could be out, the wiring could need replacing or something as simple as the buttons not working.

User Avatar

Make sure you have the main cruise control button depressed. You will then see a display light indiciating "Cruise Control". After that, just use the normal buttons to set, accelerate, and coast. BEWARE, though. The cruise control button for our 2004 Accord stopped letting me keep it in the depressed position, and I can't keep my cruise control on now. Will let you know once the mechanic takes a look at it.

The horn fuse is under the hood next to the battery. It also controls the power to the steering wheel's cruise control buttons. The fuse is 10 amp.

User Avatar

a loose wire will cause that. also lots of other reasons but ford is known for cruise control failures in that year on all models

User Avatar

check to see if your spoiler brake light is out replace it and it usually will finish the ground to the abs sensor and cruise control

Cruise control is an accessory.

First step might be checking the vacuum lines in the engine bay. If the cruise control unit does not get vacuum it will not work. Second, the brake light switch might be suspect at that age, it might be sticking or not working. Last, the buttons inside the car or the cruise control unit might have failed.

It is possible to convert a car without cruise control to have cruise control. Many auto parts stores sell kits which will install cruise control in a vehicle.

Replace the cruise control deactivater switch which simply screws into the top of the master brake cylinder. Costs less than $20 and everything will run properly again! there is no deactivater switch on the master brake cylinder on a 2003 ford f-250

There are several ways to fix the cruise control on your Mercedes-Benz depending on the problem with the cruise control. Make sure the fuse for the cruise control is not blown.

I just had a good reliable shop diagnose my cruise issue. Turned out the cruise was fine but the vehicle speed sensor was damaged and wasn't relaying any signal to the cruise system. It runs off the transmission and was around $100 plus time plus diagnosis time. 1993 Explorer 4x4 5spd XLT.

The clock spring allows you to turn the steering wheel without disconnecting the wiring to the cruise control buttons and horn in your steering wheel If your horn and cruise control don't work the clockspring is probably broken ( P.S. I'm not a mechanic / technician but my money would be on that guess )
