How do you replace the outer glass of the headlamp in 1998 Mercedes C230----Does the whole lamp assembly need to be replaced or only the glass---How?

I replaced mine on a 99 C280 and would imagine it should be the same or similar on yours. The glass headlamp cover is held in place by about 6-7 steel clips that are accesible with the hood open. Make sure when you replace it that you also replace the rubber gasket that lays in the 'gutter' where the lip of the glass cover will sit. I bought mine online for about $80-90. Since the one I was relacing was already broken, installing the new one took less than 30 minutes.

1. Open the hood. 2. Remove the front air deflector. 3. Apply light pressure to the headlamp lens to hold the headlamp assembly in place while disconnecting the retainers. 4. Lift up the headlamp assembly retainers to release. Important: Note the location and position of the headlamp adjuster retainers and the locator tab. 5. Remove the headlamp assembly, pulling straight forward from the headlamp mounting panel. 6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the headlamp assembly. 7. Rotate the headlamp bulb/socket counterclockwise to release. 8. Remove the headlamp bulb/socket from the headlamp assembly, if required. There are (2) pull up clip retainers that hold the headlamp assembly in place...Both of these must be removed for the headlamp assembly to be pulled forward...:)
