  1. Step 1

Raise and support the front of the car with the floor jack and place jack stands under the frame for support. Remove the tire and wheel assembly, using the lug wrench. Remove the brake line attachment point on the side of the strut, using a 10 mm socket. Remove the two large bolts and nuts securing the bottom of the strut to the knuckle, using a socket and wrench.

  2. Step 2

Lift the hood and remove the three 13 mm nuts securing the top of the strut to the fenderwell, using a socket. Push to separate the strut from the knuckle and remove the strut from under the car. Place the strut on the floor in an upright position and install the spring compressor. Tighten the spring compressor until the spring compresses to the point that it no longer touches the top bearing plate.

  3. Step 3

Remove the top bearing plate retaining nut by placing an Allen wrench in the center of the strut shaft to keep it from moving, and removing the nut with a wrench. Lift the bearing plate off followed by the spring. Lift the rubber spring cushion off the base of the old strut and place it on the new strut.

  4. Step 4

Hold the new strut upright and mount the spring on the new strut making sure that the bottom end of the spring sits in the rubber cushion properly. There is a depression in the rubber that makes it easy to see how the rubber and spring should be mated.

  5. Step 5

Install the upper bearing plate and retaining nut. Use the Allen wrench approach to hold the strut shaft while using a wrench to tighten the nut. Relieve the tension on the spring by backing off on the spring compressor and removing the compressor.

  6. Step 6

Install the strut up into the fenderwell by aligning the studs on the bearing plate with the holes in the fenderwell and pushing it through. Install the three 13 mm nuts on the bearing plate studs and tighten.

  7. Step 7

Align the lower base of the strut with its mounting point on the knuckle and push them together. The knuckle slides into the slot on the strut. Insert the two large bolts and nuts securing the strut to the knuckle and tighten securely. Install the brake line bracket on the side of the strut, using a 10 mm wrench.
