on a 1.9? just finished this myself. remove plug wires from the coil pack. remove the coil (4 screws) and move to the side. remove the coil mounting bracket (2 bolts at top, 1 on the lower rear, and 2 screws through a bracket at the rear connected to EGR pipe). remove the heater hose and radiator hose from the now-accessible thermostat housing. remove the housing (1 bolt on top, 2 below). remove thermostat from housing. reverse to install.

1.9L Engine

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Drain the cooling system. 3. Remove the air intake tube, crankcase breather and PCV hose. 4. Remove the ignition coil pack and bracket. 5. Remove the upper radiator hose. 6. Remove the ignition coil pack bracket. 7. Unfasten the heater hose inlet tube bracket bolt and remove the heater hose inlet tube from the thermostat housing. 8. Remove the three thermostat housing attaching bolts, then remove the thermostat housing and gasket.

Do not pry off the housing.

9. Remove the thermostat and the rubber seal from the housing. To install: 10. Clean the thermostat housing pocket and cylinder head mating surfaces. 11. Place the thermostat into position. Press it into place to compress the rubber seal inside the housing. Make sure the thermostat tabs engage properly into the housing slots.

12. Position the thermostat housing and gasket on the cylinder head. 13. Install the three attaching bolts and tighten them to 71-97 ft. lbs. (8-11 Nm). 14. Install the heater hose inlet pipe and the heater hose inlet pipe bracket bolt. 15. Install the upper radiator hose. 16. Install the ignition coil and bracket. 17. Install the crankcase breather, PCV hoses and the air intake tube. 18. Connect the negative battery cable. 19. Refill the cooling system. 20. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature and check for coolant leaks. 21. Check the coolant level and add as necessary.

The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing at the engine end of the top radiator hose.

The 1994 Chevrolet Beretta thermostat is located on the front of the engine. You can follow the top radiator hose directly to the thermostat housing. The thermostat will be in the thermostat housing.
