drain the coolant by loosening the drainplug in the bottom of the radiator. follow the lower radiator hose to where it attaches to the engine. remvove the clamp from the hose. remove the 2 screws that hold the small black cover in place. the thermostat is under that cover. install a new stat with a new gasket with the vent hole (its a small hole in the stat with a little dumbell in it) facing up (12:00). it may be necessary to remove the alternator to do this on a rav, its pretty tight in there!
