If all that broke is the metal shaft inside the lever, you can replace the complete lever with the multi-function controls quite easily. To revemove the complete lever assembly, open the small coverplate on the steering column behind the wheel, (towards the dash). This small coverplate comes off easy. Under this cover you will see the cruise control wires, (if you have cruise control). Disconnect these wires at the wire harness. To remove the lever assembly, just pull out, away from the column. There is a small detent in the metal shaft that holds it in, just pull firmly and it will come out. You can buy a replacement from the dealer or a junkyard. Reverse the procedure and you have a new lever installed.
