which engine E5 or B5?

For the 1600 SOHC engine you will need to do the following:

1. Depressurize and drain the cooling system.2. Loosen the alterantor adjustment and remove the belt.3. Remove the water pump pulley.4. Remove all the timing belt covers.5. Loosen the timing (camshaft) belt tensioner and slip the timing belt off the camshaft toothed pulley (ensure you do not move the positon of the camshaft)6. Unbolt the lower radiator hose fitting and heater retrun pipe.7. Unbolt the water pump from the block (5 bolts).8. Remove all traces of the old gasket before mounting the new pump (Permatex spray on gasket remover works well).9. Install the new pump and reassemble in reverse order to above.

PS I replaced my orignal water pump after 220,000 kms, primarily because it was leaking coolant.

First, disconnect the battery and then, remove the alternator and power steering belt, then the timing belt cover, the timing belt and the two pulleys, unscrew the pump bolts and that's it

It's behind the timing chain cover. With the right manual you might be able to replace it, but there is a lot of cautions you need to be aware of. The manual will show these precautions.

Unfortunately, it's inside the timing cover :-) My tip is to replace the timing belt at the same time. not a nice quick job either I'm afraid.
