Most cars you can disconnect the battery for about 3 minutes to clear the codes if this does not work you may want to call an auto parts (Auto Zone ) checks and can clear codes if you have this kind of Auto parts store around if not call a few around to see if they offer this service
I was told reason for failing inspection was the ERG valve code said it was not functioning properly. If ERG valve is not working properly would this make this light come on? If I replace the ERG valve can I reset it myself?
to reset your check engine light, 1. Put the car in park 2.turn in on 3. rev it up to about 6000 rpm (not under, but anywhere over will do just fine) 4.slowly let it idle its way down by taking you foot off the gas.(be sure to let it got real slowly) 5.step on the brake and shift it downwards(reverse, neutral, drive, one, two, and back up to park making sure the transmission shifts during each gear). 6.turn the car off, count to ten, then turn it back on. this should work. its a mechanics secret!
Can't say I ever heard of the previous post's comment.
Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active.
The light will shut off after you repair the car. It will store a the code as a non active code. When you disconnect the battery it will erase the non active codes only.........
The purpose of an Alternator is to periodically recharge the battery while the engine is on.
You have a bad battery. Keep that up often enough, and you are going to end up with a bad alternator. Alternator's don't like being operated without a load going to them. Running the engine with either of the battery cables disconnected is not good.
Dead battery, disconnected starter cable, or the engine is missing.
It shouldn't. When the engine is running, electricity is supplied by the alternator, not the battery. If the engine dies when the battery is disconnected, the battery and/or some related part (such as the voltage regulator) is bad.
P1684 - Transmission - Battery Power To Module Disconnected if battery was disconected for a while or battery replaced, it can cause to set this DTC
You do not have to reset anything. but you should have the battery disconnected. and once you reconnect the battery it will reset your computer.
A vehicle may not run if the battery cables are disconnected with or without a bad alternator. The best way to test an alternator is by voltage output when applying a load.
Usally that means the battery has been disconnected within the last 10 starts
Yes chevy caprice do run when battery is disconnected as long as the cars alternator is in working condition to keep the car goin once turned on.car won't turn on without battery just like any other.
Trouble code P1684 means: The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts
Disconnect your battery, and leave it disconnected for at least 24 hours. The battery backup on the computer will die after 24 hours, at that point, the service engine indicator is reset.
Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Step on brake and try to start vehicle with battery disconnected. Reconnect battery. I stumbled onto this by accident.
