Many of the GM vehicles of that vintage had an oil change reset button inside the fuse panel that is immediately adjacent to or behind the battery. If you can find that button, turn the key ON but engine not running, press and hold the button for about 10 seconds. Someone watching the light should see it flash a couple times. Turn off the key, then start the engine to see if the light goes off after the startup "test" sequence.
how do you reset change the oil light in a 2004 alero?
After changing the engine oil, you must reset the system. To reset the system, you must do the following: 1. With the ignition key to ON, push the RESET button located in the driver's side instrument panel fuse block. 2. When the CHANGE OIL light starts to flash, press and hold the RESET button again. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL light goes out. I can e-mail you the manual for the Alero 2001 for 14.95 us forward your payment to paypal send to : email@example.com use paypal If you want the Alero use manual on CD then 29.95us
open fuse box on inside of driver door at the top there is a red button while car is switched on not running press and hold button down for about 10 seconds this should reset it
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Just press the reset button at the fuse panel on the driver side. Press it for some seconds and it will clear the light.
On the Alero, open the drivers door and remove the fuse panel cover. Turn the ignition key on without starting the engine. Press the red reset button in the fuse panel once, the change oil light will flash, press and hold the reset button until you hear a chime. Done
hold the reset button and the trip/ odometer button at the same time or some combo of the reset button and another hour or min button.
Turn your ignition switch to 'ON' (don't start the car) The reset button is on the driver's side instrument panel, this is also where your fuses are located. Press the recent button once and your 'Change Oil' light should start to flash. Press the reset button again and your 'Low Tire Pressure Light should start to flash. Press and hold the reset button until you hear a few chimes and then let go.(wait tell the light shuts off then let go) Your light should then be off. To get to the fuse box, you must have the drivers door open. Pull on the plastic piece and the reset button is there.
I have a 2002 alero how do you reset, the coolant light is always on. Thanks, Alero owner
There is no reset button for the check engine light. You can have Mitz. do it for $$$ or you can remove the negative battery line for a few seconds and replace. That will reset the check engin light.
GM vehicles do not use inertia/reset buttons
On my 2000 Alero I open drivers door and open fuse panel door. Then turn key onposition but don't turn engine over. Push in reset button until the light you want flashes then hold the reset button for a few seconds.
