Dude, sounds like overkill. There is a button under the dash that you depress and you'll be able to start car. If its OEM equip there's a way to disable alarm and still use remote key. to find button (run left hand down the outer edge of dash where padded dash meets hard plastic - then slide to the right and feel or look around . It may be black and hard to find - its small)
== == == == I also have a 1998 subaru legacy outback with the factory alarm system. The alarm was stuck on. The remote buttons seemed to stop the alarm while the button was depressed but it would continue after the button was released. I was not able to turn the alarm off or start the engine. I tried disconnecting the battery cable, and when it was reconnected , the alarm picked up where it left off. The whole time the alarm sounded muffled and not as loud as normal. We used a jumper battery pack. The alarm got louder when that was connected, and i was able to turn it off with the remote at that point. I bought a new battery and that seemed to fix the problem until today. (about 1 week later) The alarm went off as soon as i shut the car off. The remote button would not shut it off. This time however i WAS able to start the car with the key. I drove it home and when i shut it off that time, the alarm did not sound. Not exactly sure what the problem is. I was parked on a slight hill. Dont think i accidentaly hit the panic button or anything. I'll replace the remote battery tonite, maybe that has something to do with it.
There should be an override switch - either you push it or togle it - on the left side under the dashboard (next to your left leg) on the wall -- it is very small and kind of hidden. Put your key in the ignition and turn all the way up to cranking but do not crank. While it is there, push/toggle the override switch and while it is pushed, start the car. it will start. Good luck. I've exactly the same truck. Good Luck. Anil anilchachan@Yahoo.com 11/3
You need to go to the setting tab to reset the anti-theft system if your car will not start the 1998 Camaro. You can also refer to the user manual.
You forgot to reset the theft alarm!
If an alarm system will not allow a vehicle to start the kill-switch is engaging. The brain of the alarm will need to be disarmed in order for the vehicle to start.
If you mean theft system activated, it can only be reset through computer by an auto locksmith or dealer. If light flashes when key is on, theft was detected. If light is not on and you have no fuel at schrader valve on rail- you can try inertia switch for fuel.
Remove the fuse. smokingallowed say's: Removing the fuse will only erase the memory from the computer, and it will have to relearn what it should know. It will not reset the theft system. Here's how to reset the theft system. Roll the window down,(if power windows, turn the key off again)reach thru the window and try to start the car. When it don't start just leave the key on for around 20 minuets or so. If you dont leave it on long enough you will have to go through this waiting period again, but 20 mins. should do the trick. Then turn the key off for about 30 seconds, then start the car. P.S. Dont do anything electrical, like, push the brakes, open the door, mess with the radio. Just reach through the window to turn the key. I own three z24's... 97'97'99...On 2 of them('97 & '99) the theft system light will flash when it is activated and stop flasing after 20 mins. when it is reset, but the 3rd car('97) theft system light will not flash, just be lit and go off after the car is started.
No, a camera will not "prevent" theft anywhere. A camera might slightly deter theft (even if a dummy camera), assist in prosecution of a suspected thief, or even help trigger an alarm, but it will not prevent anything.
How do rest anti theft
how to locate the anti theft reset
If you have changed the stereo the alarm settings will reset. The dealership reset those for Anti Theft protection.
I believe you need to just start the engine with the key, it worked for me
Try taking the battery cable off for 5 minutes it should reset its self.

I used the remote to lock/unlock the doors and it reset the anti-theft on a 1997 Dodge Intrepid.
after you reconnect the battery you need to reset the alarm system. there should be a reset button (valet button) located under the drivers side of the dashboard. hold the button for 3 seconds then try to start the vehicle.
