What's wrong with your DSi that it requires a reset? All settings should be reversible except the firmware version. I know when I had an M3i Zero I had trouble with the firmware, but it runs custom firmware anyway.
A Nintendo DSi can be reset in a few ways. One way it to remove the battery from the back, another way is to go into the 'settings' and restore the factory settings.

In order to do a factory reset on a Nintendo DSi, you must "Format System Memory" within the "Settings" menu. Heed the warning screens beforehand. Keep in mind that there is really no need to format the system's memory unless you are selling it.
Simple, you can't but you can turn it off and then back on by sliding across the power switch, and then changing the settings! Edit: you can also put your battery out of your DS, wait 45 secs, then put it back in. then the DS forgot all the settings, and will start over again with the factory settings.
New firmwares permanently overwrite each other, so even a factory reset doesn't remove them, there's no real need to though.
go to settings and parental controls and select pin enter your old pin and then your new one
Find the part that shows a picture of the Nintendo DSi Settings> Parental Controls and select forgot password, forgot secret question, now type the enquiry number.
First you go into system settings then go to the very last page and tap on Format System Memory and that re-starts the system.
