Basically if your asking this question YOU DONT.Its for a professional not a nasty hiv,hep spreading scratcherlike yaself

wow guy...simple question...everyone will tell you to invest in an autoclave. it does the job. Use and throw away disposable needles. Autoclaves can run kind of high so save up;) good luck

Wow i basically i signed up for the site just to remark to this ignorant post. i really shouldn't dignify it with an answer but here it goes....First of all don't listen to this guy if you are going to tattoo you should lean how to be absolutely sterill and clean in your work. you have to start somwhere and you should learn the right way. what hes saying is like telling people not to have sex rather than wear condoms, you know people are still going to do it but rather than being helpfull and somewhat a descent person you resort to demeaning the whole issue. I myself use a steam autoclave, but if you want to go a cheaper way use a stove top. always sterilize and make sure what you doing is legal where your at. Spreading disease is no joke so i recomend if you get spore tests to check if your sterilizer is working properly

*stove top sterilizer that is*

Generally, needles are sanitized in an autoclave. In the past, many tattoo artists made their own tattoo needle configurations to use in their tattoo machine. This was done by soldering needles to a needle bar, to be connected to the machine for tattooing. I don't know how many tattoo artists are doing this today as pre-made, single use, disposable needles are quite inexpensive and are sanitized prior to being shipped to the artist. Even today, many artists will sterilize the needles in the autoclave once they receive them just to ensure they are sterilized.

The pre-made, single use, disposable needles are just that... used once and disposed of properly in a "sharps container". By todays health standards, no needles are to be re-used on another person. If you see this happening, this is not a place where you want to get a tattoo!!! Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to report this to the local Health Dept. or police also... anonymously of course!!! Might keep a few people from getting hepatitis, aids, etc....

Pretty simple, just not cheap. Get a quality Ultrasonic cleaner to clean your tubes, grips and stems, then place them in autoclave bags so you can ensure:

1. They got sterilised properly

2. They STILL are sterilised before you use them

Follow manufacturer's guidelines, your own state's legislation, yes it's expensive but there no corners to cut when you consider the sorse case scenario instead.

Oh and don't be stupid and think there's any simpler way out there and that a pressure cooker etc. will work. you're kidding yourself. If you can't afford it use all disposable sterilised equipment at the very very least.

Tattoo parlors don't have to sterilize the needles. For each tattoo, the artist uses a brand new needle that is completely sterile and packaged until use.

What size needles do what for a tattoo machine?

The needle size does absolutely nothing for a tattoo machine. A needle to a machine is like a brush to the hand. Different tools for different needs. If you want mor information, get an apprenticeship under a skilled tattooist and they can give you more in depth information.

How can you protect yourself from getting hep b from a tattoo needle?

Make sure the shop you go to has a license, is clean and that they ONLY use disposable needles. If you don't see them pulling out a new, sterile needle each time they start a tattoo, then don't get a tattoo from them. - - - - - You're not likely to get a bloodborne disease from a tattoo needle. If you're going to get one from a tattoo shop, it will come from the ink. Tattoo artists don't like to use old needles, and needles aren't expensive--so, unless you go to someone who tattoos out of his house, you'll get new needles when you get a tattoo. The ink is a different story. It is expensive, and they can't use all of it when they give someone a tattoo. You put ink in a tattoo machine by dipping the tip in the ink and stepping on the footpedal, which causes the needle to pull ink into the reservoir. If you're refilling the machine during a tattoo, there's blood in the machine, which winds up in the ink. Some guys are tempted to put the unused ink back in the bottle. So...if you really want to see how good a shop you're dealing with, go watch them do a tattoo--they'll let you. If they finish the tattoo and immediately throw all the ink caps and excess ink into a biohazard bag, it's a safe shop. If they set the ink caps to the side for later, don't go there.

What does a tattoo artist use to tattoo?

Well generally we would use a drawing on a light box to take an outline from a design that you would bring in, assuming it would be a non custom piece. besides that we would use a thermo fax or hand trace the design on carbon paper to get our stencil

Can you use rubbing alcohol to sterilize tattoo needles?

No you can't use rubbing alcohol to sterilize tattoo needles. Rubbing alcohol might disinfect the needles but sterilization for tattoo equipment is usually done with a "Steam Sterilizer (Autoclave)" which removes spores by applying heat and pressure to the equipment.

Can you reuse your tattoo needles?

I wouldn't reuse tattoo needles due to risk of spreading infections or diseases, even if an ultrasonic cleaner is being used. It's just not worth the risk for how little you have to pay for needles. You can pay about 12 dollars for around 50 needles of your choosing on most websites.
