if you mean how can we separate sand from gravel we should use separator .for a low amount manually and huge amount mechanical separator. In labs you can use shaker and mesh with different rank.

You would separate them with a Sieve
Set both of the compounds in a strainer and shake till all you have left is gravel

Sand and gravel can be separated by sifting them through a mesh, that will allow the sand to fall through, but will hold back the gravel.

You could put it through a fine strainer or a piece of mesh so that the sand will fall through and the gravel will stay on top.
