On my 1995 XLT the instructions are - with the radio on - PRESS AND HOLD THE "CLK" button and use the SEEK button to increase or decrease the HOURS , and use the TUNE OR TUNE DISCS button to increase or decrease the MINUTES After time is set - release the "CLK" button
Not sure on the explorer but I did rear brakes on a Taurus ( 98) & the piston turned in. I used a set of channel locks & turn them counter clock wise. There is a tool for this.

I have set my 1998 Windstars clock by having the radio on, pushing the clock button down while using scan up and down for hours and minutes.
