The timing on a 1997 Dodge Ram is not set with a timing light. The distributor rotor is lined up with the mark on the pick up plate when the engine is at tdc to set base timing. The timing is then fine tuned with a scan tool. The scan tool is used to set it exactly to 0 degrees.
I think you disconnect battery for 10 minutes.
You don't set timing with a light on a 1995 Dodge Ram. You set the distributor to 0 deg with the engine off, and the computer takes over from there. To set dist to 0 you need to remove dist cap, set crank pulley on 0 mark and look down over rotor and line it up with mark in pick up plate in dist.
You can purchase a tool for that job for probably under $10 from your local auto parts store. If you attempt to disconnect the line without the proper tool you will damage it.
Disconnect the low pressure line

The engine computer is on the passenger side of the firewall.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes, then reconnect. This will clear the error codes from the computer. If everything is okay, the light will stay off.
