It's computer controlled - you don't need to!
The 4.0 L SOHC engine has 3 timing CHAINS
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC engine has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS
The Explorer 4.0 does not have a timing belt. Both the regular 4.0 or SOHC model have timing chains. The SOHC, I think has the timing chain at the back of the engine.
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC - V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS
( 3 timing chains ) on the 4.0 liter SOHC Ford engine . 2 are at the front of the engine and 1 timing chain at the back of the engine to the passenger side cylinder head
not gospel but 4.0 sohc engine is an interference major damage if timing chain or timing chain tensioner breaks
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC engine has ( 3 ) timing chains and the Ford 4.0 liter OHV engine has ( 1 ) timing chain
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) both the SOHC and DOHC engines in a 1999 Ford Escort ARE INTERFERENCE ENGINES
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains . There are two timing chains at the front of the engine and one chain at the back of the engine that goes to the passenger side cylinder head The Ford 4.6 liter SOHC , V8 engine has ( 2 ) timing chains at the front of the engine
The Ford 4.0 L - OHV - V6 engine has ( 1 ) timing CHAIN The Ford 4.0 L - SOHC - V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS
No , according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) the 2.0 liter ( SOHC and DOHC ) engines that are used in a 1999 Ford Escort are NOT INTERFERENCE ENGINES
The timing chain itself is not hard to change , but the engine has to be removed to do it, that is why it is such a costly job if taken in to a garage . a common fault i believe on these engines .
