If you push the door panel in and look behind the handle you will see a small clip push it off with a small screw driver. It will be a little tricky but it will come off. the window handle has a cover over it, you should be able to pop the cover off and there is a screw right there to take the actual handle off. Seems like late 70s and 80s models (maybe more) had spring clips in the back of the window crank handles. You have to slip a slotted screwdriver in behind the hub of the handle, into a slot which will release tension on the spring clip. Then, holding pressure on the clip, you can slide the handle off it's splined shaft.
You do it from inside the door. Take the door panel off, roll the window up, and go to town.

How do you remove the manual window cranThere should be an Allen type set-screw in the base of the handle. It will be recessed, and you'll have to turn the crank to access it more easily. Remove the setscrew, and the handle slips off of the stud. If the window is down, and it begins to rain, you can roll the window up by holding it onto the stud, and turning, or you can use a small pair of vise grips. Just try not to damage the teeth on the stud.
