You should tell them it kindly but firmly. Don't be rude and say "you're just not my type." That is impolite.
Don't be too apologetic or they may get the wrong impression. Just explain if you have a commitment or other reason, and say "sorry, I don't like you in that way."

∙ 14y agoDepending on the age difference there are many ways in which you can let them down if it is a big difference then just tell them that your age difference is too much obviously this would only work if you are younger.
But if you are an older person (eg 20) and not younger (eg 11-14) then the best thing to do is to just say it to him as blatantly possible and just say that you are not interested because (apparently) honesty is the best policy. He may not talk to you for a while but he will forgive you and eventually you will be friends again. Hope this helps anyone in this situation. Alternatively you could say you are a lesbian.
