How do you tighten a recently replaced serpentine belt on a 1996 Saturn LS1 that has come loose?
Hey Julie==It needs to be checked out as to what happened. There is supposed to be spring tension on the idler pulley. GoodluckJoe
You don't, they have a tension pulley that does that automatically. If the belt is too loose, the pulley most likely has to be replaced. Thecommi ::: The serpentine belt is held by tention with a automatic belt tensioner. If the serpentine belt is loose, you will most likely have to replace the entire belt tensioner assembly. the assembly comes with a new pully.

Where is the 1999 Saturn sl-series knock sensor and How do you replace 1999 Saturn sl series knock sensor and the torque to tighten it?

It is spring loaded to tension the belt and control belt position. The bracket for the idler pully has a square hole in it that is used to compress the spring during belt installation or removal. You can put a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar in the…
Only the serpentine belt. That's the one that drives the alternator, power steering, air conditioning... Unlike many other 4 cylinder vehicle manufacturers, the 4 cylinder Saturns did not use a timing belt; they used a timing chain which is INSIDE the engine and receives a constant oil bath while the engine is running. The Saturn timing chains did not typically need to be replaced unless rebuilding the engine.
