Generally, an abscess will need to be treated with antibiotics to cure it fully, so you should consult your veterinarian. They might suggest that you also bathe the affected area with salt water, as this can help draw out any toxins.

well, if you're at home, and have had no medical people working with you or your abscess then this is where I would start: (you might need some help depending on where the abscess is..) *FIRST AND FOREMOST: *W-A-S-H Y-O-U-R H-A-N-D-S!!!!!!!! with antibacterial soap!!! and whomever else's hands is gonna be helping!! *I would gather up these items: **a few towels **peroxide **rubbing alcohol **q-tips and cotton balls **paper towels **other optional stuff: **normal saline **neosporin **gauze bandage and bandage tape (watch for Allergies to the tape and if you know you have an allergy to a certain adhesive on the tape, you might want to find a hypoallergenic tape to use. Just whatever works for you. **1. Lay on a towel with the area exposed. **2. take the alcohol and pour it on the cotton ball, and clean the area around the abscess (I wouldn't get the alcohol right up on the area because if it's open, it's gonna burn like --well-- it's gonna burn :-) **3. After you've cleaned all around the abscess with the alcohol, get the paper towels and peroxide. **4. Make sure to have paper towels in one hand and peroxide in another and pour enough peroxide on the abscess to cover it all, and catch the excess peroxide with the paper towels. This may sting a little, but it should stop after a second. **5. Get clean paper towels and pat the abscess dry. **6. At this point you may want to put some neosporin on the abscess, depending on how large it is, you might apply directly with a CLEAN hand or apply it to a bandage if you use a bandage. **7. If you are planning on using a bandage and decided to put the neosporin on the bandage apply the neosporin to the bandage and then lay it over the abscess. Tape the four edges down so that the bandage made with the gauze covers the entire abscess. After the abscess begins to heal, if you have been using a bandage and neosporin you might want to just leave the bandage off and apply the neosporin by hand and leave it open. ** instead of using peroxide you may want to use normal saline to pour over the abscess, but it won't do the same thing as peroxide...peroxide is used more as an antiseptic, but if you're just wanting to cleans the abscess a little then normal saline would be fine. If you are doing this for the first time, you might use the peroxide a few times for cleaning the abscess out but then you might not want to continue using it if the abscess is healing nicely and at that point it would be good to just pour the normal saline over it to clean it. :-) hope this helps

Written by a 9 year old-To get rid of an abscess you can go to a dentist and get a prescription for antibiotics , then when the abscess has gone you'll probably get your tooth pulled out. To get rid of the pain of an abscess you need to put heat on it so maybe try a whee tie or a hot water bottle. If you have read other paragraphs saying you have a chance that you can die, don't listen to it, you can only die from an abscess that is covering your nose and mouth which is probably not possible. So don't worry, you will NOT die. If you put cold on an abscess like frozen food or things like that you will go numb then in like 10 minutes the numbness will wear off and you will sting like mad and it will bleed! Don't use cold , use heat. Thank-you for reading and if it helped you with an abscess, just remember you got advice from a nine year old who has had 3 abscesses, thankyou:)

An abscess on the gum needs surgical treatment by a dental professional. Warm packs, antibiotics, and painkillers will give temporary relief, but the situation will not resolve until you see a dentist.

Could you get a abscess from getting your tongue periced?

The only way that I could see an abscess forming is if it gets infected and you don't treat it properly. If you take the jewelry out with an infection, you trap the infection and an abscess forms. Otherwise, you're good to go!

How do you treat an abscess under the skin?

Antibiotics are effective for many infections, but in an abscess, the body has walled off the infection. Normally you need the assistance of a health care provider to clear up the infection. If your health care provider can't get you in soon (a dentist if the abscess is in your mouth, or a primary care provider if elsewhere), use warm compresses four times a day and see if you can find an urgent care center to help you with the abscess.
